As with all good legends, sometimes it's difficult to separate fact from fiction. That the Highwayman started life as an 18th century coaching inn, is generally accepted as true. Whether it was ever the midnight haunt of Lancashire’s notorious Highwayman is a little less certain. But what is undoubtedly a fact is that The Highwayman is now tempting thousands of people to venture along Nether Burrow’s charming byways to enjoy some of the best regional food ever served in this landmark inn.

Following a £1.2 million renovation, Ribble Valley Inns in partnership with local brewer Daniel Thwaites, The Highwayman reopened its doors in April 2007, heralding a new era in the colourful history of this infamous watering hole. Now a Ribble Valley Inn it brings a new dimension in enjoyment and relaxation to this picturesque corner of Lancashire, just a stone’s throw from the borders with Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Nigel Haworth, along with his Head Chef Michael Ward develops The Highwayman menu to fully embrace the flavours of regional cookery and British Classics in-line with the seasons.

Burrow nestles just outside the picturesque town of Kirkby Lonsdale. So reaching The Highwayman couldn't be easier. It's only minutes from Junction 36 on the M6. Or if you prefer a ride through some of Lancashire's most beautiful scenery, take the slightly more meandering road from Junction 34.
